Eight years ago, the Torrington Historic Preservation Trust obtained Skee's Diner. (To learn about Skee's history Click Here)
Skee's Diner was built by the famous Jerry O'Mahony Dining Car Company around 1930. It is the oldest diner in the state of Connecticut, and perhaps the best preserved interior of a diner thats almost 100 years old in the country! In 2014 we moved the diner to an indoor location for a full restoration, with the goal to get it back out into service. Our plan is to utilizing the historic value of Skee's Diner as the attraction, while attaching it to an existing structure to create a complete restaurant. (Health Dept. codes prohibit the diner to operate as a stand alone) |

The Plan
We have found a beautiful 3-story brick building built in 1915 that would compliment the diner perfectly.
The building is 31' wide by 53' deep, with a full basement. It sits on a piece of land 65' wide by 200' deep that butts up against the east branch Naugatuck River. Located at 159 East Main Street in downtown Torrington, the restaurant will sit on the main access road in and out of downtown Torrington. In addition, travelers from a large portion of Litchfield County pass this building heading to Route 8 which is the only highway leading to the interstate. Currently all three floors of the building are vacant. It is our vision to assist the owners with a full restoration of the 2nd and 3rd floor apartments, along with remodeling the ground floor into a new restaurant. A Ground Floor Opportunity (literally!)We would like to find someone who understands and sees our vision for bringing this iconic historic diner back into service.
Someone who is looking for a situation where they can build out the kitchen, design the dining area to their own liking, develop the menu and grow the restaurant into the raving success we believe in will become! For further information or to discuss... Please call Edward Cannata @ 860-307-2220 |
